Friends Annual Celebration Game with DBE

Sunday 7th September ’25 :  Waddesdon BC, in the peaceful surroundings of Waddesdon Manor, was the venue for The Friends of English Bowls annual match against the “BE Celebration Team for Players with a Disability”.  (That title is quite a mouthful so maybe a competition for something snappier?!).

Happy and all ready to go

A warm welcome from Jennie and Marcia

It was my pleasure to be Match Officer and to welcome Jennie Sandford, MO for the aforementioned side and her 4 rinks of players with varying disabilities.  It was a pleasure to play against them and there was plenty of good play and good humour on all the rinks.  We were also very grateful that Laurence had his bowls and kit with him so was able to stand-in for one of our players missing on the day.

Waddesdon BC our hosts provided us to a very enjoyable meal after the match and club members & officials were thanked during the speeches for the roles they played in making the afternoon such a success.  Peter (Secretary), Stewart (Chair) & Keelan all helped with providing liquid refreshment.  Jane (Treasurer) and Ali for a lovely salad with either flan or meat and hot potatoes followed by a choice of desserts.  The green we had all enjoyed was looked after by Gary and Paul.

The Friends were, however, successful on every rink giving a combined score of 84-50.  and our Top Rink was Hazel Baker, yours truly, Neil Fletcher and very ably skipped by Tony Waller.  Top rink for our opponents were Marilyn Keoter, Chris Brown, Luke Smith and Alan Stephenson.

Thank you once again to our hosts and opponents for making the afternoon so enjoyable.

Marcia Dunstone (Hertfordshire)
Captain of the Day
