Monday 21st August 2023 Friends Pairs Competition at Victoria Park, Leamington Spa.
Its that time of the year for our pairs competition, with a sunny morning and a good number of entries, it was a much looked forward return of the competition last played out in 2019.
Everyone turned up for the draw on time even Dawn who had emailed that she was in the queue for the car park. The draw took place in ‘The Extra End’ tent and the players trooped up to the allotted green E. The first round started off on time at 10am. There was laughter together with some serious instructions on the rinks, as everyone was taking it as seriously as the players competing on the other greens at Leamington. Unfortunately for some Friends their time on the green did not last as long as others! Those that were knocked out stayed to watch, together with other spectators who had come from other greens to see what was happening.
After 3 games of 15 ends we ended up with our finalists – Tony Redford and Marcia Dunstone verses Neil and Maxine Fletcher. By end eight Tony and Marcia had a 5 shot lead, but then Neil and Maxine won 6 of the next 7 ends, taking the lead and winning the game 14 – 10. All four players came off the green pretty weary (it was a long day) and I believe all must have had a good nights sleep.
Both teams were awarded with their monetary rewards and the winners received the silver platter to be held until the next competition.
- Marcia & Maxine
- Tony & Neil
- Our Runners Up, Marcia Dunstone & Tony Redford
- The winning team, Neil & Maxine Fletcher
Among the entrants this year were the current Bowls England President, Deepak Tanna, current Bowls England Senior Vice President, David King-Taylor, and 4 Past Bowls England Presidents. We look forward to next years competition. Once Bowls England advise us which day the green will be available for our use the entry form will be sent to the membership.
