Saturday 12th September 2026 – Friends at Croxley Guild BC
Croxley Green — depending on who you ask — is either a village, a suburb of Rickmansworth, or simply the proud owner of England’s longest village green.
The Friends of English Bowling arrived at Croxley Guild Bowls Club in glorious sunshine, greeted by Club Captain Des Sedgwick and a warm welcome that set the tone for their 100th Anniversary celebrations. The clubhouse buzzed with that familiar mixture of anticipation, chatter and the quiet hope that one’s bowls might behave themselves for at least a few ends.
As always, the score was politely escorted to the back seat. Celebration matches are never about the numbers — they’re about the friendships, the laughter, and the stories that somehow grow more dramatic with each retelling.
After a delicious meal (the sort that makes you briefly forget you ever intended to avoid second helpings), speeches were made with warmth and good humour. Des was then presented with a plaque from The Friends of English Bowling, marking both our visit and the club’s impressive 100‑year milestone.
It was a day full of sunshine, proving once again that bowling brings people together in the most enjoyable of ways. The Friends were delighted to share in Croxley Guild’s special occasion – thank you.
