A Joy to Play DBE at Bredon BC

Worcestershire a scenic county, with lovely towns and villages.  One of them, Bredon, is home to, of course, Bredon Bowls Club.   The club is set in a sporting complex and is beautifully kept and their members most welcoming.  Hot drinks, filled rolls and drinks across the bar were ready for purchase and Disability BE and Friends arrived like two big families ready to meet each other.

What a lovely surprise

Outside of the clubhouse we collected together for a group photo and then……don’t move  ….Steve (DBE) has a large silver cup,  a trophy, to give to the Friends by way of thanks for the support they have given to DBE.   Kath (Friends’ Chair), very surprised, accepted the trophy with great delight.   It will be brought to each match Friends play against DBE as a symbol of the friendship between us all.

Next it was down to the serious stuff –  the match.   No, it is always so joyful when you play against DBE.  Yes we want to put down the best bowls, but we all want to enjoy it.   Those international DBE players can they play bowls?  Yes you can hold good shots, but you cannot keep them against these very good players.

The after match meal was hot pie and roasties with salad to add if wanted, followed by fruit pizza and ice-cream cones. Yum. Thank you  Jo, Sally and Mandy.

Jack, DBE Captain, stepped up to give a few words on behalf of his team and thanked all of the club helpers for their hard work in making it such a successful day.  Kath replied and presented homemade preserves to the top rinks. For DBE Luke, Sue,  Colin and Jack. For the Friends Brian, Anne, Don and Andy. Friends won the game overall, but not by much.

We were treated to a fantastic raffle, which Jack organised. Loads of good prizes, which raised over £500 for DBE.

Thank you. Bredon Bowls Club for a lovely, lovely day.

Kath Lloyd
Captain of the Day
