Wednesday 14th May 2025 at Bushey Bowls Club
Our visit to Bushey BC for this special celebration match was met with a wonderfully warm welcome. President Malcolm, Captain Charlie and the Bushey team ensured we felt right at home, and the game was played in the true spirit of camaraderie, sportsmanship, and good humour.
The green had seen little use early in the season due to some persistent crow troubles, making it a tricky surface at times. On the captain’s rink, we faced stiff competition, and for a while, it seemed the match might slip away from us entirely. However, thanks to the valiant efforts of the rest of the team, we secured victory on four rinks, clinching the match by a narrow margin of 98–95.

Following the match, after partaking of the brilliant meal provided, we took the opportunity to share the purpose and function of the Friends of English Bowling with our hosts. Heartfelt thanks were exchanged to all who had committed their time and help in making the day the success it had been, and a commemorative certificate was presented to President Malcolm to mark the occasion. As a delightful consolation, Bushey’s Captain Charlie congratulated me for winning the spider, and I took home a fine bottle of whisky.
Here are some pictures that capture the day.
