Saturday 21st June The first match of a busy weekend in the Cotswolds was a return visit to Chipping Campden BC, 15 years after the Friends last visited to celebrate the club’s centenary in 2010.
On a warm but initially sunless day we were welcomed to the club by Match Secretary Roger and Captain of the Day Terry. The club has a spacious clubhouse and an excellent green, and, after sampling some delicious bacon rolls, prepared by Clive and Rob, the Friends team got ready for action.
After a photo call organised by our ace camera operator Carolyn, the match commenced just as an unexpected shower of rain arrived. This provided welcome relief from soaring temperatures and soon passed through. In a keenly contested game Chipping Campden emerged victorious 100 shots to 85, winning 4 rinks, losing one and drawing the other.

After the game, the clubhouse proceedings started with a multi prize raffle with the Friends Captain of the Day winning a dozen eggs! Comments that this was the first thing he had drawn all afternoon were slightly wide of the mark as he had been part of the Friends only winning rink.
We were then treated to an exceptional after match buffet which included an amazing array of desserts, eagerly sampled by all present.
Captain Terry presented the Friends with a club shield as a memento of our visit, the Friends Captain responding with our customary framed certificate commemorating our visit. Small gifts were presented to the two most successful rinks, Shirley, Henry, Clive and Kevin for Chipping Campden and Susanne, Chris, Graham and Geoff for the Friends. The two rinks needing the most encouragement received Boost barsto help!

All in all an excellent day, the only thing missing being a win for the Friends!
