The Heat continues at Burgess Hill

Burgess Hill – Monday 22nd June 2026

We arrived at Burgess Hill in the middle of the county’s second heatwave but there was a pleasant breeze so it didn’t feel as hot as in previous matches. We had a few players drop out for various reasons so I would like to thank the Sussex Chairman and his wife, Mark & Barbara Broadway and Past president Bob Markham for helping out.

There is very little parking at Burgess Hill but the club had Parking Marshalls keeping us safe and in the right place so thank you Gentlemen, you know who you are.

Suzanne Gaywood & Mark Catchpole with Neil Fletcher sneaking in for a crafty lick!

Club Captain Richard and I decided that it was safe enough in the heat to play a full game so we proceeded with trial ends and got everything underway ahead of schedule. The club very kindly provided all of us with ice lollies after 9 ends which gave us much needed refreshment. The match was concluded with the Friends leading by eleven shots and a very good humoured afternoon was had on all rinks.

We had three new Friends members playing their first match for the association who were Suzanne Gaywood, Linda Hawkins and Mark Catchpole, welcome to you all.

Top rink on the day for the Friends were Lesley, Barbara, John and Andy. Top for Burgess Hill were Celia, young Daniel (from Texas), Geoff and Anne. The club prepared a lovely meal of Jacket Potatoes, Quiche and salad which was excellent.

This was a fitting finale to our Sussex weekend. Thank you to everyone for all your hard work and to all the players for enduring the heat.

Paul Robson
Captain of the Day
