Flitwick BC – belated celebrations

Saturday 28th June

Captain John Thompson sneaking an early look at the green

The visit to Flitwick Bowls Club took place a year later than planned due to scheduling commitments on both sides, but we were delighted to finally join them in celebrating their impressive 100-year milestone.

We were warmly welcomed by Club Secretary Sue Taylor, who greeted us with tea, rolls, and the welcome gesture of an open bar.  Although the green had suffered from disease over the winter, considerable efforts had been made to restore it, and it played reasonably well on the day.

Our Captain of the Day was unfortunately unable to take part in the match but remained engaged and supportive throughout.

The match itself proved a spirited and unpredictable affair, with some rinks winning comfortably and others conceding by similar margins. This back-and-forth resulted in a narrow overall win for the Friends, 104–92. Our highest-winning rink was skipped by Lindsay Bangs, accompanied by Barbara Dean, Pat Geary, and Steve Goff.

The afternoon concluded with both Captains offering their thanks to the club’s many helpful volunteers. Friends Captain, John Thompson then presented Captain Gary with a Friends’ Certificate as a token of our visit.

Thank you, Flitwick, for a warm, sunny, and truly enjoyable day.

John Thompson
Captain of the Day
