The Friends of English Bowling played Wilstead Bowls Club on Sunday 29th June to celebrate their 40th Anniversary, we received a very warm welcome from Pat Geary before the start of the game.
The club have been great supporters of Bowls Bedfordshire, 4 of their members being County Presidents, Jean Tait was the EWBA President, and she was also The European Bowls Union President and Pat Geary was also the Eastern Counties President.
13 Counties were represented in this match which the Friends won 127-73. As you all know the score is irrelevant it’s about meeting people and enjoying the game.
Because the club was over subscribed for the game each rink replaced a player halfway through so all their members who wanted to play got a game.
The club provided a super 3 course meal which was enjoyed by all, and we thanked the ladies who had worked very hard in the kitchen all day, our thanks also to the bar staff and the green keeper and his team, the green was lovely to play on. The skip for the FOEB on our team started of the game by helping Wilstead – he seemed attracted to their pink stickers, so I thought he deserved a special mention and presented him with a set of Wilstead sticker’s I won’t mention any names but our team was the highest winning rink when he got to grips with playing for the FOEB..I don’t know how Surrey cope with him !!!
