Highworth Bowls Club – 90th Anniversary Match
26 June 2026
A visit to Highworth Bowls Club always guarantees a warm welcome, and their 90th anniversary celebration was no exception. Friends members travelled from nine different counties to join the occasion, and were greeted with open hospitality: the bar was flowing, fresh rolls appeared as if by magic, and packets of biscuits circulated with cheerful generosity.
Conditions for the match could not have been better. It wasn’t scorching, freezing, windy or wet—just perfect bowling weather. With comfort assured, battle commenced on the green.
At the close of play, it was a pleasure to rise and announce the results, and to thank our hosts for such an enjoyable day. Kath, the Club Chair, supported by Adie, Match Secretary, confirmed that the game had been played in the friendliest of spirits and that Highworth had secured the win, 99–90. With three rinks apiece, it was a well‑balanced contest.
True to tradition, Kath then produced her famous preserves, awarding them to the top-performing rinks. For Highworth: Lee, Pauline, Al and Neil. For the Friends: Barbara, Michael, Richard and Adie.
