Refurbished Clubhouse at Coton BC

Someone is taking it easy – saving his energy for the game?

This is the first of three games in the Cambridge area. We were met at the car park gates by members of Coton BC. The green was very brown due to the hot weather and a breakdown to their watering system but we were able to have a good game.

Inside the clubhouse we were met by more members providing filled rolls, tea, coffee and liquid refreshments. The game was to be 18 ends. It was a close game three rinks each with a final score of 103 – 95 in favour of the Friends. The club then provided a very nice meal after the game provided by other members of the club. After the meal we thanked the ladies on catering, the bar staff and the greenkeepers for all the work they had done. It was then time for presentations, top rink for Coton Frank, Graham, Peter and Ray. Top rink for the Friends were Sue, Maddie, Michael and Mike.

We heard how the club had to close their clubhouse last year when asbestos was found in the roof space. The club worked hard to raise 50% of the cost through fund raising methods and games were played using temporary gazebo’s for changing around the green. They now have a very nice refurbished clubhouse.

It was then time to wend our way home and for those that were spending the weekend in Cambridge finding their local lodgings. Those living more locally went home to return the next day for another match.
