Our Kent Games began at Herne Bay BC

Saturday 3rd August The first of our three games in Kent took us to Herne Bay BC.  So nice to take a peek at the sea, before we found our way to the venue.   Friends from 11 different counties were made welcome to the specious clubhouse.  Today was a good temperature – the sun was just about out – and after a little confusion over the start time, we all collected together for the traditional…

A Joy to Play DBE at Bredon BC

Worcestershire a scenic county, with lovely towns and villages.  One of them, Bredon, is home to, of course, Bredon Bowls Club.   The club is set in a sporting complex and is beautifully kept and their members most welcoming.  Hot drinks, filled rolls and drinks across the bar were ready for purchase and Disability BE and Friends arrived like two big families ready to meet each other. Tewkesbury BC warmly welcomes Friends

Saturday 27th July 2024 Tewkesbury Bowling Club, the second oldest club in Gloucestershire, was bathed in sunshine when we arrived to be greeted by the club Chairman Stewart and Captain Malcolm, but a heavy shower arrived which happily stopped before the game started.  However, apart from a light shower in the middle of the game, the rain stayed away and an excellent game was enjoyed in a beautiful setting with Tewkesbury Abbey in the background….

The Friends of English Bowling v Highworth BC, Wiltshire 15th July 2024 We arrived at Highworth for our celebration match to thick cloud and rain; we were warmly welcomed, and the rolls and cakes on offer to purchase for our lunch were much appreciated. Grandstand View at Wantage BC

Saturday 13th July ‘24  My route from home, on the satnav, appeared to be a straight line from Thame to Wantage vs a long curve via Oxford.  I took the straight line.  Mistake!  It turned out to be a route with lots of pretty villages, all with 20mph speed limits, and twisty country roads.  However eventually we arrived at Memorial Park in Wantage.  On the advice of one of their members, Colin (plus mobility scooter)…

Laughter on the green at Faringdon BC

Sunday July 14th  Our third game was at Faringdon BC,  situated in the market town which lies at the edge of the Cotswolds midway between Oxford and Swindon. We had been blessed with sunny but not too warm weather and this was to continue.  We were greeted by President John, and Captain of the Day Emma (Em).   There was a slight hiccup when one of the kitchen ladies reported sick, but fortunately in stepped two…
